Writing In The Daylight ~ Dancing In The Night

Twenty-nine years old, British and female. I share my time between reading, writing, running a business and raising a child. The division is not exactly equitable. I create, appreciate, relate and repair. Tea and chocolate are staples to my existence.

Hey hun! It's just out of curiosity - did they talk in the news in GB about the floods in Germany? Or are they just panicking here? As for the one thing I want to know about you: Did you enjoy your day today? ;) Best wishes, I xxx

image

They did *hugs you* It’s been on the news here, and is mentioned every half-hour or so, but it’s more focussing on prague for some reason (perhaps it’s worse, I’m not sure?) I hope you and yours are all all right.

As for me, I’ve had a good day: productive and (guiltily) enjoying the sunshine.

Do you plan on writing any original stories in the future? Not that your current works aren't amazing. Just wondering if you're more into 'fanfiction' or are also thinking of original fiction. If you have could we see them? :D

Anonymous

I used to imagine fanfiction as a stepping stone for original fiction. But having given it a shot I have to admit, writing original, for me, wasn’t nearly as fulfilling as I would have liked. However, if you want to see what my original’s like (was like, it’s a few years old now… you can see it at my archive

Right now, it’s definitely fanfiction all the way!

Singing in the shower: Yes, No? Type of music? Sorry you are having a crummy day. (Return questions welcomed)

Yes, and everywhere else, too. I can’t sing, but it doesn’t stop me. My taste in music is very eclectic. I hear stuff I like and I grab it, from Coldplay and Fall out Boy to Vanessa May and other orchestrals (better to write to)

My nailgun and chainsaw guy seems to have gone now I’m not trying to write any more. However, the child is home from school, so mother duties must resume.

The world is plotting against me.

So I broke my rule about starting WiP fics, thinking there's 12 chapters, by the time I get to the end there shall be more... Nope. It's addictive reading and utterly brilliant but now I'm gagging for the next chapter. Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!

image

Another addict to the fold. Marvelous. The next chapter’s due out on Friday, hun. Sorry it can’t be quicker!

Aside from writing, what's your passion?

image

You can have more than one?

Seriously, writing is my main passion. I enjoy a lot of other things to some extent, but nothing transports me quite like writing does. Or making up stories in my head, which is kind of the same thing! That said, on the rare occasions I get true solitude, I love exploring the world around me. I like finding beauty in unexpected places. City alleys with ribbons of stars overhead or cottage ruins in open fields. I love taking the time to stop and look. To see the detail and the overall impression. I don’t observe the same way Sherlock does, but taking the time to really *see* is something that brings me a quiet satisfaction. I should do it more often.

Hey hun. I'm also having a bad day - dehumidifiers STILL running 24/7 (now since over three weeks... it's like suffering from tinnitus). I'm drinking delicious red wine to endure. What are you doing to survive? Hope you get better soon! I xxx p.s.: Nailguns? Chainsaws? What's goin' on?

Someone’s building a fence next door, and they are lovin’ the power tools. Totally unnecessary, in my opinion. I can’t hear myelf think, let alone write. I’d drink, but I have to go and pick the kid up from school soon. Not cool to show up tipsy.Good luck with those dehumidifiers, hun! I’ll be joining you in the drinking before long!

I see you retail(?) jewelry (love the intricate designs by the way). =) I was wondering what is your favorite kind of jewelry ring/necklace etc? and why Gothic jewelry in particular? I love jewelry personally as well and I love listening to other people who love it too. ^__^

I do indeed retail Alchemy jewellery, and I love anything that’s eye-catching. I love Gothic jewellery so much because it can be either blatantly or subtly macabre, but it almost always makes people look twice. Alchemy do great things with crystal and enamel. Rich, vibrant gem colours. Mmmm, yes please!

This is one of my current favourites: Queen Of The Night

What's the craziest thing you've ever done?

Hmmm, crazy isn’t really my style. Dangerous and desperate happens occasionally. I ran away from home once. Got to London (about sixty miles?) before interfering people well meaning friends dragged me home. I sort of resented that, actually. I mean, okay, chances are I would have ended up murdered in the gutter or dying of disease, hungry and cold, but there was slim chance I could have ended up being a mob boss or something.

See now I wish I could say I’d done something cool like, I dunno, climbed the Eiffel tower with no safety equipment, but really, these days, the craziest, high-risk things I get to do involve chucking dry clean only items in my washing machine.

About that thing with your FMA fics, I just wanted to say that as much as I'd enjoy reading more of that and as much as I dislike unfinished works, I think it's perfectly fine that you moved on to the Sherlock fandom; it's your choice what you write about, and those people have no say in it whatsoever. The first Sherlock fanfics I read were yours and that was because I remembered seeing some on your profile back when I devoured your FMA works. You're an amazing writer no matter in what fandom.

Thank you, hun, that means a lot to me <3

Oh, you were part of the Harry Potter fandom? Got any fanfics from back then? And would you ever consider writing Potterlock? (I feel like I may have read a potterlock drabble from you once, but I might be mistaken)

I was indeed. The fanfics I still have published on the ‘net are het ships. (Harry/Ginny) but mostly action adventury types. They’re at Phoenixsong.net under the name Myth and Legend.

The ones which I eventually removed were once (a long, long time ago) published under the name of Bliss and had truly trite titles like “Harry Potter and the Power of Betrayal” However, they did teach me a lot about writing, including how much people can forgive when faced with someone really passionate about what they’re writing :D

As for writing Potterlock, I did/do/am/will consider it. I did the drabble where John was a Gryffindor and Sherlock studied at Beauxbatons. :D

Hi! Happy Bank Holiday :) I'd not visited Glittergoth until just now (bad Ky, should have done!), but there's some gorgeous work there, so thanks for bringing it to me. Do you work with anyone else on your fic or do you do all the editing/proof-reading yourself?

You’re welcome, hun. I love Alchemy’s stuff. I’m a bit of a jewellery addict, and selling it just seemed like the way to go.

Generally speaking, I’m a lone-wolf kind of writer. I have a friend who reads the drafts for cheer-leading and plot checking purposes. (If she’s squealing with delight, I’m on the right track) I’ve tried writing collaboratively, but I’m a bit disasterous at it. I have a tendency to take over.

As for the editing, I have made use of beta readers in the past, and they have been hugely valuable to me and taught me a ton and a half of stuff. However, finding one who works well with you and doesn’t overstep their bounds or take an age to edit is a challenge and a half.

I’ve worked with various people over the years as editors, but all my work in the Sherlock fandom is self-edited. It’s not perfect, far from it, but I’ve reached the point where I like being the one in full control of my word choices and nuances in style :D

What is the one (or two, if you feel like it) life lesson you want your child to learn before he becomes a legal adult?

I think the ultimate lesson I want to treat him is about respect. Respecting others and respecting yourself. Culturally, the world (or at least the part I live in) appears to be seriously lacking in this one fundamental ingredient. People’s opinions and beliefs are treated as a matter for contention and conflict, not something to be explored to broaden your own horizons and understood. I’d teach him to have an open mind, if I could, to seek out like-minded people and educate him on the diversity of the spectrum of human existence.

I’d teach him that while the people just like you may be the easiest to understand, if you don’t make an effort to stretch beyond that, you’re missing out on an awful lot.

Hopefully I’ll be successful, but this parenting thing is hard. XD

How long have you been writing fanfiction/fangirling for?

Forever :D I started writing fanfiction at around the age of 14, though it wasn’t until I was 16 and in the HP fandom that it pretty much took over my life. Oddly enough, my fan experience has always been related to writing. If I’m obsessed with it, I’m writing about it.

Sometimes I have to resist, though. I can tell when a fandom is getting to the point where it’s going to be my next big thing, and sometimes I really not ready to leave my current love. My interest in FMA nearly waned two years before Sherlock thanks to Maximum Ride. However, I reduced my exposure and carried on with FMA. Sherlock, on the other hand, was impossible to resist.

I’ve never been that much of a “celebrity” fan. Mr Cumberbatch is my first celebrity crush, and at nearly 30 and married, I’m a bit embarrassed this late onset. However, I comfort myself with the fact that he is a remarkable human being and actor and clearly deserving of my interest!

So long story short, at my best estimate I’ve been writing fanfiction for approximately fifteen years. Probably… :D

Profile Pic

Is that you in your icon picture? If so, is there a story behind it?

It is indeed me. It’s a bit out of date. I was 27 ish and about 14 lbs heavier then *squints at it* I was actually showing off the necklace I’m wearing. One of Alchemy Gothic’s ones that I sell at GlitterGoth My hubbie wanted to practice his photography, so I clenched my teeth and endeavoured. I still hate having my photo taken, but I’m getting better at it. Can’t do much to change the way I look, so I might as well learnt to love it, I suppose!
